BROOKSVILLE, Ky. - A 16-year-old is dead after being involved in a Bracken County accident Monday afternoon.

The Bracken County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene of a fatal accident at 2663 Brooksville Germantown Road in Brooksville, Ky., at about 4:15 p.m. Monday.

Investigators say the vehicle driven by Ryan Monahon, 16, was traveling eastbound on the roadway when the driver lost control of the vehicle and drove into the path of an oncoming westbound vehicle. Monahon's vehicle was struck in the passenger’s side door and spun into a building.

Emergency crews transported both drivers to Meadowview Regional Hospital. Monahon was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital.

The teen attended Bracken County High School where the superintendent, Jeff Aulick, said Monahon was involved with his church, community, and participated in school activities, like keeps statistics for the football team.

Blue Ribbon for Ryan Monahon.Volunteers throughout the community arrived at the high school Tuesday to help as grief counselors and tend to other needs of the school.  Students handed out blue ribbons for Monahon's memory, and the American flag was lowered to half mast in his honor. Aulick said that the community response was overwhelming and appreciated.

"Within a matter of an hour and a half we've got 25 seasoned volunteers dropping their schedule within an hour's notice to come to the school," said Aulick.  "They'll be back tomorrow to help with the children here and the parents."

The other driver was treated and released. Authorities have not released any additional details about that person’s injuries or identity.
