Two towns in Kentucky are named on list of 'Best Small Towns In America'

Two small towns in the Bluegrass State are getting national recognition. Bardstown, Ky., and Murray, Ky., have made the list of the "Five Best Small Towns in America."

It's part of USA Today's "Best of the Road" contest . Bardstown is named "most beautiful" and Murray is named "friendliest."

According to the contest organizers, teams of amateur travelers visited the finalists in each of the categories before picking the winners. The other categories are most patriotic, best for food and most fun. Danville, Ky., was a finalist in the "most beautiful" category.

"Kentuckians already know what friendly people we count as neighbors and what beautiful cities and towns we have to live in and visit," Kentucky Gov. Steve Beshear said in the article. "We're happy to share that news and welcome visitors to experience Kentucky's scenic beauty and its warm hospitality. Congratulations to the Kentucky towns recognized as 'Best of the Road.'"

If you live in Bardstown or Murray, you can see your hometown featured on national television. An hour-long television special on the "Best of the Road" towns will air on the Travel Channel at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 25.
