WALTON, Ky. - Nearly 20 animals were lost, and nearly 200 saved, in a barn fire Monday morning in Walton.
The Walton and Verona Fire Department received a call of a livestock barn on fire at 494 Jones Road at 6:33 a.m., Lt. Shaun Ratcliff with the fire department said.
“There were about 20 animals that died,” Ratcliff said.
The barn, converted from a machinery barn, housed goats, chickens, cows, peacocks, and turkeys, among other animals.
“We’ve still got to sift through everything and a dollar amount,” Ratcliff said of the estimated cost of damage.
Fire investigators are still trying to determine the cause of the blaze, he added.
The fire was put out around 8:30 a.m.
According to the Kenton County Property Value Administration page the property is registered to a Knock Family LLC.
