CINCINNATI - A major website has named Cincinnati "The Most Social City in the World."

Mashable.com asked its users to nominate communities on the cutting edge of social networking. The website announced the competition to promote its upcoming Social Media Day , Thursday June 30.

The editors of Mashable.com chose the Queen City, based largely on the submission by local resident Blair Ward. He submitted a 70 second video , pointing to famous Twitter stars @ochocinco and Brandon Phillips ( @DatDudeBP ) and the way people in Cincinnati use social media to stay connected.

Thousands of cities worldwide are participating in Social Media Day, but only Cincinnati can lay claim to the title "Most Social City in The World," according to Mashable.com

On Thursday, people who know each other online will gather in real life at The Pub at Rookwood Mews at 2692 Madison Road to mark the occasion and celebrate Cincinnati's induction.

Anne Caslteberry is organizing the local event. She told Mashable.com “Cincinnati is a mid-sized city made-up of distinct communities — we love to love our city together. Social media is one way we connect."
