ST.PETERSBURG, Fla. - Nearly every day for 20 years Johnny Jones makes a point to sit and take in the view from his St. Petersburg, Fla., neighborhood.
"I like to just relax before I go to work," said Jones.
But his relaxing day turned a bit unusual last week.
"I thought it was a bird with a red beak or something out there," he said.
What Jones saw was a cat. The feline was perched 20 feet in the air with a red Doritos bag over it's head. Video was taken of the animal and put up on YouTube.
"It tried to swipe the bag off a couple of times, but it was losing it's balance. It just stood there from then on," Jones said.
Johnny Jones said after waiting a few minutes he ran out and flagged down a police officer.
"He kind of just looked confused. He didn't believe it either," he said.
After seeing the cat first hand, Jones said the officer contacted the fire department. Pinellas County emergency services said the call came in around lunch time. St. Petersburg fire department showed up to help the feline.
"I was kind of concerned. I thought maybe it would hit the power line," Jones said.
His reason to worry was valid. As soon as firefighters tried to get a hold of the cat, it got scared and fell 20 feet to the ground.
But the cat must have had nine lives.
"It just took off. The bag went one way and it went the other way," said Jones.
He said his neighbors came up with a theory of why the cat wore the Doritos bag.
"Maybe it was hungry and stuck it's head in the bag. You know stray cats," said Jones.
Jones said he has a nickname for the cat. "I'm going to call it Lucky," he said.
