A prominent fast-food chain has revealed what many view as a decades-long McMystery.
Since the Big Mac was introduced in the 1960s, the “special sauce” that graced the double-decker delicacy was considered to be a secret. But with the rise of mandatory nutritional content transparency and the Internet, the sauce is less of a spectacle.
McDonald’s Canada recently revealed the ingredients in the signature sauce — or at least a version of it with ingredients that can be found in most grocery stores.
McDonald’s executive chef Don Coudreaut said the sauce combines yellow mustard, sweet pickle relish, mayonnaise and white-white vinegar, which go along with onion powder, garlic powder and paprika. Coudreaut did not mention amounts of each ingredient in the recipe.
The sauce joins pickles and onions on the sandwich.
Because Coudreaut did not name specific ingredients instead of store-bought alternatives or provide amounts for each item, the special sauce remains somewhat secretive.
