A new study shows that a key to keeping seniors healthy is keeping them moving.

A study in the Journal of the American Medical Association find that trying to prevent falls by limiting seniors' movement and activity is a bad idea.

While many believe that demobilizing seniors can help prevent serious falls that lead to lengthy hospital stays and even death, new research found that a lack of movement can lead to different but equally negative outcomes.

Researchers found that a lack of moving around can can cause the following:

  •                 PRESSURE ULCERS
  •                 LACK OF SELF CARE
  •                 DEPRESSION
  •                 POOR QUALITY OF LIFE

The authors of the study urge health care providers and loved ones to help promote routine strength and balance training for older adults.
