Woman found with toddler will fight extradition

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) -- The lawyer for a woman arrested a few days after Christmas on the University of Kentucky campus with a small child says his client will fight extradition to California where she allegedly abducted her granddaughter in Los Angeles.

Fayette County District Judge Julie Goodman scheduled a hearing for 62-year-old Maria DeJesus-Baltierra to be held Tuesday on charges of custodial interference and endangering the welfare of a minor and on the extradition. Baltierra's attorney, Ben Cabuay Jr., said she won't waive extradition.

The Lexington Herald-Leader (http://bit.ly/VvojBM ) said Baltierra pleaded not guilty when she appeared in court Wednesday.

University police arrested Baltierra on Friday after officers saw her pushing a stroller on campus with a 17-month-old child who wasn't dressed properly for the cold weather. The child is in state protective custody.
