CINCINNATI - The Reds Community Fund just got a boost from a prominent fan who attended Friday’s game at Great American Ball Park.
Actor Charlie Sheen, a dedicated Reds fan, and his father Martin were on hand Friday to watch Cincinnati beat Pittsburgh. After the game, broadcaster Marty Brennaman had his head shaved publicly after fans donated $50,000 to the Reds Community Fund.
Sheen matched that total Saturday night to bring the sum to $100,000. Sheen’s donation will benefit the Reds Urban Youth Academy project.
“The City of Cincinnati has opened its arms to me so graciously, and I am compelled to give something back,” Sheen said Saturday. “If this contribution points one kid in the right direction, then we’ve done our job.”
Sheen was in town to celebrate his father’s 70th birthday. Martin Sheen is a Dayton native. Brennaman also turned 70 last week.
