LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Sports Illustrated reported Wednesday that current Louisville football coach Charlie Strong signed a contract extension with the university after rejecting multiple offers from the University of Tennessee.
Neither Strong nor a spokesperson from Louisville was immediately available to confirm the report.
Sports Illustrated writer Pete Thamel wrote, "Louisville and Strong are finalizing a long-term extension that could be announced as early as Thursday. It's expected to be a significant commitment in both years and dollars and will reportedly put Strong in the top echelon of coaches in the ACC."
Sources have reported that Strong met with his players at a team facility Wednesday and is likely to make a final decision Thursday.
Strong has helped turn around the Louisville program that went 4-8 just three years ago. The Cardinals are 10-2 this season and will play Florida in the Allstate Sugar Bowl in New Orleans Jan. 2.
