INDIANAPOLIS - Racing fans are honoring the late Dan Wheldon by bringing American, British and checkered flags to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
The two-time Indianapolis 500 winner was killed Sunday in a fiery crash during IndyCar's season-ending race at Las Vegas.
Less than 24 hours later, a steady stream of fans brought various items to honor Wheldon, including two half-gallon jugs of milk -- the traditional victory drink at Indianapolis.
One man, who grew up in Yorkshire, England, hung a large British flag on the main gate where fans have entered the track for more than 100 years. Wheldon was born in the small English village of Emberton.
Speedway officials say a banner with Wheldon's photo is expected to be placed above the gate later Monday.
