DRY RIDGE, Ky. - The number one seeded Simon Kenton Pioneers wasted no time showing why it was ranked as the top team in KHSAA District 32 Monday night.
Senior guard, Cody Chambers, had 19 points on the night, 17 of those came in the first half, nine of which were from beyond the arch. Teammate Andrew Sampson had 13 of his 20 points in the first half. He hit three 3-pointers on the night.
Simon Kenton head coach Trent Steiner explained the mentality of his team's playing ethic.
"Every body was 0-0 going into tonight," Steiner said. "Williamstown didn't care what our record was and we didn't' care what their record was. We just had to make sure we took care of business."
Simon Kenton scored 32 points in the second period and led by 31 at half-time. Steiner explained to his team that the big lead did not mean the game was over.
"You got to play through it," said Steiner. "You got to play hard on every possession and don't be disrespectful to the game."
The teams came out and traded points in the third period, even after Steiner put the bench in to play with three minutes left in the period.

That's when Williamstown's David Jump hit five 3-pointers for his 15 on the night. Teammate Jake McKinley led all scoring with 24 points. Nine of those came for the perimeter.
The game had 18 three point scores for the night. Ten of those belonged to Simon Kenton.
The Demons got the score within 29 at the 4:30 mark in the last period, but it was not nearly enough.
When coach Steiner was asked who he would rather see, Walton-Verona or Grant County, in the district final his response was direct, "We couldn't care less. We're there. Bring it."
The Bearcats will be the home team at Grant County's gym on Wednesday. The Braves have fallen to Walton-Verona three times this year.
