Simon Kenton traveled south Friday night to take on District 32 rival Walton-Verona. The two teams have split every time they have played during the past two years, including two district tournament championships.
The home team started off strong and Simon Kenton matched Walton-Verona basket for basket. Senior guard, Cody Chambers, tied the game at six with a drive to the basket. On the next trip down the court, Cody Monson found Chambers all alone to the right of the key, and he drained it to give the Pioneers its only lead of the night., because Simon Kenton blazed a trail that left the Bearcats behind the rest of the game.

Trailing 22-11, Walton-Verona was setting up for the final bucket of the first period with 30 seconds left, and WV's Zach McNeil's pocket was picked by SK's Cody Monson. He hit a streaking Riley Barnes on the fast break for the lay-up to lead 24-11 at the first break.
The Pioneers extended its lead to 19 points at the half, 37-18. The Bearcats could not keep pace with SK's three point shooting. The Pioneers shot nearly 50 percent from the perimeter (8-17) for 24 points.
The Bearcats trailed by as many as 26 points, twice, in the second half. With close to four minutes left in the game, WV's head coach, Dan Trame, put his junior varsity squad on the floor.
SK's JV players made the best of it. Taylor Morrison got a bucket and Trevor Montgomery hit a three pointer for the final score of the night.
