The Dixie Heights Colonels picked up their first win of the season by rallying to beat the Conner Cougars in front of a home crowd, 33-30.
Dixie Heights (1-2) found themselves down 24-14 after three quarters of play, but young Colonels would not go away. Sophomore quarterback Drew Moore scored on runs from 15, 65, and 11 yards out in the final quarter to help lead the charge. He finished the night with 11 carries for 97 yards and was 15-for-23 for another 175 yards and a score through the air.
Drew Barker and Cameron Fogle continued to post stellar numbers in the loss for Conner (2-1). Barker was 12-of-21 for 226 yards and 3 TD’s passing. Fogle finished with five catches for 110 yards and two touchdowns.
It was the defense that doomed the Cougars. The unit gave up an average of 20 points in a pair of wins over the first two weeks and has shown signs of having problems stopping opponents. They will need a better effort next time around to reverse their fortunes.
Conner travels to Campbell County next week while Dixie Heights is set to battle Boyle county on the road.
