The Holmes Bulldogs picked up their second straight of this young season by knocking off the Beecwhood Tigers on the road, 33-21.
Holmes (2-0) was paced by strong running game as they tallied 171 yards on the ground, including 55 yards from Jonathan Scruggs, and a solid night by quarterback Rashawn Coston, who finished with 138 yards on 5-of-8 passing while adding 25 yards on the ground. The senior connected with All-TriStateFootball.com wideout Desean Peterson on a 40-yard TD strike and also hit paydirt on a 7-yard TD run.
Beechwood (0-2) took the lead early in the game when Cameron Lane found sophomore Jack Talley in the end zone on a 9-yard pass.
The lead wouldn’t last long as Bulldogs’ defensive back Erik Cutright had a pick-six as he returned a 20-yard interception to knot the game at 7-7. Holmes would go on to score 28 unanswered points to seal the road victory.
Lane finished 9/18 for 78 yards and two TD passes and added a late 41-yard score on the ground the loss for Beecwhood. The Tigers, who already playing without star player Max Nussbaum, also loss another key contributor as senior running back Gage Erdman was forced from the game with an apparent ACL injury.
Holmes will look to keep their winning streak going as they travel to Simon Kenton next Friday night. Meanwhile Beechwood will try to get pick up their first win of the season as they travel to Holy Cross.
