The Lloyd Juggernauts picked up their third win of the season by knocking off the Walton-Verona Bearcats 38-33 in a game that was delayed by nearly an hour on Friday night in Erlanger.
Lloyd (3-1) scored three of the game’s final four touchdowns to rally past the Bearcats. Senior quarterback Dexter Smith ran for two of those scores and connected with Jared Gabbard on a 14-yard scoring strike for the other.
Smith finished the night with 234 yards and a TD on 14-of-25 passing and picked up another 135 yards and three scores on 25 carries. He also punched in a pair of two-point conversions to lead the Juggernauts to a victory.
William Latimore had a big night in a loss for Walton-Verona (2-2). The sophomore took two punt returns to the house on 84-yard and 72-yard runs. He also had a 54-yard rushing touchdown and returned a fumble for 65 yards and a score on defense.
The Juggernauts knocked off the Bearcats last year in the playoffs after Walton-Verona beat them in the 2011 regular season and there was certainly a carryover effect in this game between the Class 2A programs.
Up next, Lloyd welcomes Gallatin County to Cecil Dees Field. Walton-Verona stays on the road at Campbell County.
