CINCINNATI - A pair of district champions met on Friday night as the NewCath Thoroughbreds took care of business as they handed the Beecwhood Tigers a 34-14 defeat to close out regular-season action in our US Marines Backyard Battle.

NewCath (6-4) got a huge night from senior running back Dylan Hayes, who finished the game with 170 yards and three touchdowns on 23 carries. Quarterback Josh Cain added a 9-yard TD run and senior Brady Thacker punched another rushing touchdown in from eight yards out to round out the scoring for NCC on a rain-soaked evening.

Max Nussbaum provided most of the offense for Beechwood (6-4). The senior running back rushed for 147 yards and a touchdown in the loss for the Tigers.

The win by the Throughbreds snaps a two-game losing streak they had to their long-time rivals.

Both teams appear to be set to make a strong push for a deep playoff run in their respective classes. Beechwood will welcome Bracken County next Friday night in 1A clash while NewCath stays at home to tangle with Gallatin County in 2A action next Friday night.
