The Walton-Verona Bearcats continued their perfect play at home as they breezed past the Dayton Greendevils, 42-0.
Walton-Verona (2-1) did most of the damage on the ground offensively as 284 of 321 total yards of offense came via rushing the football. Corey Bennett led all rushers with 95 yards and two touchdowns on 17 carries. Chris Latimore had nine carries for 76 yards and a score while his brother, Will Latimore, toted the ball four times for 43 yards and a TD of his own. Logan Foley made trips to the endzone while finishing 68 yards on just four carries for the Bearcats.
The defense was equally impressive for Walton-Verona as they held Dayton (0-3) to 143 yards of total offense and forced three Greendevils’ turnovers. Linebacker David Carr made a big splash coming up with 5.5 tackles and a sack in the contest. Through eight quarters of football at the Walton-Verona Sports Complex the Bearcats have held their opponents to just 13 points.
DJ Walker led all Dayton rushers with 57 yards on 11 carries in a losing effort.
Walton-Verona looks to avenge last year’s season-ending playoff loss as they travel to Lloyd to tangle with the Juggernauts next Friday. Elsewhere, Dayton plays host to Bishop Brossart.
