WINSTOM SALEM, N.C. - One of the top minor league prospects for the Cincinnati was held up hours before he played in an All-Star game in Winston Salem, N.C. on Tuesday.
Billy Hamilton, a shortstop for the Reds' Class A affiliate team in Bakersfield, Calif., was with another man when they were approached by two men around 12:30 a.m. One of the suspects was armed with a gun, according to WXII12.com and MLB.com .
A third man who was in town to umpire the game was also held up in a separate incident around the same time, according to the reports.
There were no injuries reported in either incident.
The incident did not seem to phase Hamilton, known as one of, if not, the fastest player in baseball. The Reds' prospect was named MVP of the game. Hamilton went 1-for-5, but stole two bases and scored his team's only run.
The Reds have not commented on the incident.
