CINCINNATI - Since the March 2 tornadoes that tore a path of destruction through the Tri-State, some home builders are offering tornado safe rooms as an option in new homes.
We found a model home in Independence, Ky. that has a safe room included as a featured amenity. It’s an all-concrete room with a special door added that the family can go to in the event of severe storms.
We talked to Brian Miller, the executive vice president of the Home Builders Association of Northern Kentucky, who said that after the destructive tornadoes from four month ago, there’s been an increased interest in tornado safe rooms.
“Right now we are seeing a demand increase for safe rooms and for as little as $500-$600," Miller said. "That’s a pretty good insurance policy that your family is going to be safe in case of a catastrophic tornado event.
