An investigation is underway after an accident in Boone County sent four people, including a young child, to the hospital Thursday afternoon.

The Boone County Sheriff's Office says two cars collided head-on on Burlington Pike in Belleview around 1:50 p.m.

According to the sheriff's office, Kyle Wood, 18, of Belleview, was driving eastbound in a Honda Civic when he crossed the center line and crashed in to a Toyota Camry driven by Casandra Kenton, 36, of Burlington.

Two passengers inside the Camry have been identified as Dolores Kenton, 59, of Petersburg and Noah Kenton, 3, of Hebron.

Wood and Delores Kenton were both flown by medical helicopters to University Hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

Cassandra Kenton and Noah Kenton were transported to Saint Elizabeth Hospital in Florence by ambulance.

Officials say Noah Kenton was secured in a car seat at the time of the accident and the other three victims were all wearing their seat belts.

According to the sheriff's office, initial indicators are that Wood fell asleep at the wheel.
