LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) -- Police in Jessamine County are investigating the burglary of a house where a man recently died. The body of 54-year-old Randy Sheets was found in his home on Saturday.
WKYT-TV in Lexington reported when Sheets' family went to his home to gather some of his belongings, they found someone had broken in the front door and ransacked the house.
Prescription medicine, a jar full of change and some other items were stolen.
Jessamine County Deputy Anthony Purcell said it appears someone knew Sheets had died and committed a crime of opportunity.
Sheets' sister, Georgia Sheets, said the crime was a cruel act as the family prepared for a funeral.
