BURLINGTON, Ky. -- The family of a man who died after he was incarcerated at the Boone County Jail has filed a lawsuit.
It's alleging Randy Jackson was murdered back in August after a beating by deputies.
"I want them in jail for murder because they did, they murdered my son," said Christine Ash, Randy Jackson's mother.
A Covington officer arrested the 50-year-old on August 3 for failure to pay child support.
The next day he was transferred from the Kenton County Jail to the Boone County Jail.
"The intake sheets at the Boone County jail indicate he had he no fractures, he had no severe cuts or bruises and abrasions -- and then something just went wrong," said Attorney Eric Deters.
Randy's mother arrived at the jail with his girlfriend that same day to bond him out. Deputies informed her to go to the hospital.
"When they got to the hospital and took him out of the ambulance, there was blood down the side of his face, running out of his mouth. He was unconscious," said Jackson's mother.
A lawsuit filed on behalf of the family states Jackson suffered seven blows to the back of the head, two to the side, a broken neck and bruising all over his body.
He was in a coma for five days before he died.
"I asked Randy did the jailers do this to you? And if they did, squeeze my hand and he did," said Virginia Burton, Randy Jackson's sister. "If it takes my last breath, I'm going to see them go to jail. I promised Randy before he died, they'll pay."
Boone County Jailer Ed Prindle tells 9News he is not permitted to make a comment about pending litigation.
