ELSMERE, Ky. - Elsmere police say a mobile home fire that claimed the life of a man last week was intentionally set.

"I don't know what happened. I wish I knew something but unfortunately I don't," said Nicole Croy, Kenneth Dean Croy's wife.

Nicole Croy is left with more questions than answers about her husband's death.

Last week, firefighters found Kenneth Dean Croy dead in the bedroom after fire swept through their mobile home on Eagle Drive in Elsmere.

"He was a lovely man. He was really good at what he had done. His occupation, he was a welder. The iron man he made that. He liked spending time with his son." said Nicole. "He goes 'Where's daddy? Where's daddy? Oh God that's so hard. You know, he's up there.'"

The preliminary autopsy results show Croy died from smoke inhalation.

The fire department's report states the 41-year-old may have been impaired by alcohol or drugs.

Police are still waiting on final test results but have made a determination about the cause of the fire.

"I believe it was not accidental, therefore, yes someone set the fire. As for who or why, we still haven't got that yet," said Det. Dennis McCarthy with Elsmere police.

Despite previous media reports, Nicole says she and her husband were not fighting prior to the fire.

"There was no domestic dispute between us. No," said Nicole.

She says she last saw her husband three days before when she dropped off a car for him to use.

Police say that car is now being examined for evidence.

"I'm trying to be so strong right now because I want to know what happened. I want to get to the bottom of this too," said Nicole.

Police say they do have persons of interest in this case but they also have more people to interview.

Investigators are asking any one with information to call Crime Stoppers at (513)352-3040 or send a text to (513)352-3050.
