Widespread Power Outages In N.Ky.

Last Update: 12/08/2009 3:09 pm

More than 15,500 Northmen Kentucky customers have been without power Monday night, according to Duke Energy.

As of 10:15 pm Monday night Duke Energy reported that 2,330 customers in Kenton County remained without power.

One hour later, the number remained at 2,330. Then just before 11:30 p.m. Duke Energy reported 1,886 are still without power.

By 12:30 a.m. Tuesday morning, the number had dropped to 374 customers in Kenton County without power.

At 9:20 p.m. Duke Energy reported that 2,776 customers were still without power in Kenton County and five customers remained without power in Boone County.

The power is back on at the Crestview Hills shopping center.

Duke Energy officials say they've learned the outage involves one of their transmission lines. Earlier they said they were not sure which one was causing the widespread power outage affecting both Boone and Kenton counties, but they now say the "problem" has been isolated to the Covington, Ky. area.

Around 7:30 p.m. Duke Energy reported 4,899 without power in Boone County and 10,645 without power in Kenton County, including the Crestview Hills shopping center.

Before 8 p.m. Duke Energy reported the numbers of customers without power in Kenton County had been reduced to 6,853.

As of 8:40 p.m. Duke Energy reported the number of customers without power in Northern Kentucky had been reduced to 10,000, with 3,535 without power in Boone County and 5,174 without power in Kenton County.
