Author and photographer, Melissa Jurgensen, discusses Kentucky’s covered bridges during breakfast at Boone County Public Library, Scheben Branch, 8899 U.S. 42, in Union Ky., at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 27.
Jurgensen will talk about the 13 covered bridges still standing in the Commonwealth and tell stories of those that no longer exist.
Her books, "Kentucky’s Covered Bridges" and "River Towns of Central Kentucky," will be available for purchase and signing following the presentation.
Louisville native, Melissa Jurgensen, is an executive legal secretary, author, world traveler and photographer. Her interest in covered bridges started in 1989 when she moved to a rural area and discovered the nearby Colville Covered Bridge.
Always fascinated by history and architecture, she began visiting and photographing Kentucky's covered bridges as well as researching past bridges.
Since that time she has also photographed bridges in Ohio and Indiana. Her first book, Kentucky’s Covered Bridges was co-authored with Robert W. M. Laughlin. Her second book, "River Towns of Central Kentucky" was released in December of 2008.
Jurgensen’s writings have appeared in newsletters for the National Society for the Preservation of Covered Bridges, the Kentucky Covered Bridge Association, the Indiana Covered Bridge Society, the Ohio Historic Bridge Association and the Zumbrota, Minnesota Covered Bridge Society, and various newspapers in the state of Kentucky.
