Nearly every woman, and a few men, wears a hat for the Kentucky Derby. But this year actress Brooke Shields is wearing one to give ‘the clothes off her back.’
"The celebration is nice, but it’s nice to have a charitable aspect at the Derby," Shields said on the red carpet donning the blue hat.
GREY GOOSE Vodka collaborated with designer Rachel Roy of New York City to exclusively create a chic, sophisticated hat to benefit a special cause.
Last year Molly Sims wore the Grey Goose-sponsored Derby hat. And like last year, after the races Saturday, the hat will be signed by Shields and auctioned off on the Clothes Off Our Back Foundation.
"As a mother of two, I can think of nothing more rewarding than giving back to children in need," said Roy.
In fact, all of the proceeds will benefit The Barnstable-Brown Foundation to support diabetes research.
Roy, whose designs can be found at Bergdorf Goodman, Saks, Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom and soon Macy’s, said that the history of the Derby and its ability to stay so chic throughout the years has always fascinated her. And her inspiration for the hat’s design was the vodka company who approached her for this project.
"I was inspired by the color and shape of the Grey Goose bottle, as well as the elegance of the brand itself."
