FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - Republican U.S. Sen. Jim Bunning says he received about $125,000 at two fundraisers this month and suggests his potential Democratic challengers may want to rethink the race.
Bunning told reporters on his weekly conference call from Washington Tuesday that one Kentucky fundraiser generated about $75,000 and another added about $50,000.
The 77-year-old Hall of Famer said while fundraising has improved he probably won't need to generate as much money as he had first expected because of the contested Democratic primary between Lt. Gov. Daniel Mongiardo and Attorney General Jack Conway.
Bunning said he needs only $7 million, instead of the $10 million he had initially projected, to win a third term.
