Highway Construction Work Planned

Highway construction crews are at work this week across Northern Kentucky, acccording to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.

Motorists are urged to take precautions in construction zones. Here's a county-by-county rundown:

BOONE COUNTY

· Industrial Road (KY 1829) – Construction operations have ceased for the winter from US 42 to Dixie Highway (US 25) and on Dixie Highway (US 25) from New Buffington Road to the railroad crossing south of the Industrial Road/US 25 intersection. The speed limit is reduced to 35 MPH on this project. Please be aware of a traffic diversion in place at the railroad crossing on US 25.

· North Bend Road (KY 237) from I-275 to Kara Lane – As construction continues on this project, please watch for work crews along KY 237. Please watch for flaggers and be aware of trucks entering and exiting the highway. Traffic may be periodically stopped through this area to allow equipment to pass. Motorists are advised the speed limit has been reduced to 35 MPH through this area. Left turns are prohibited from KY 237 Southbound at Northside Drive. Expect delays particularly during rush hour periods.

CARROLL COUNTY

· Carrollton-Gratz Road (KY 389) near Mill Creek West Fork Bridge approx 0.5 mile south of I-71 interchange. Contractor will be drilling piles to stabilize the slide area. Minor delays may occur

GRANT COUNTY

· I-75 (MP 144 – MP 146) – Northbound and Southbound traffic has been restored to the original pattern of two lanes in each direction. The speed limit is reduced to 55 MPH on this project. During daytime working hours, rolling roadblocks may be used for short periods to slow traffic for blasting operations. As Construction continues on this project, please watch for trucks entering and leaving the highway.

· I-75 (MP 146 – MP 152) – Northbound and Southbound traffic has been restored to the original pattern of two lanes in each direction. The speed limit is reduced to 55 MPH on this project. During daytime working hours, rolling roadblocks may be used for short periods to slow traffic for blasting operations. As Construction continues on this project, please watch for trucks entering and leaving the highway.

· Keefer Road (KY 2936) @ I-75 – Traffic has been shifted to this newly re-aligned section of Keefer Road. As work continues through this area, please watch for flaggers and for trucks entering and leaving the highway. Expect minor delays.

· Lawrenceville Road (KY 1993) @ I-75 -Traffic has been shifted to the newly re-aligned section of Lawrenceville Road bridge as work continues through this area, please watch for flaggers and for trucks entering and leaving the highway. Expect minor delays.

· Sipple Road (KY 2947) @ I-75 - Traffic has been shifted to the newly re-aligned section of Mason Sipple Road bridge over I-75, please watch for flaggers and for trucks entering and leaving the highway. Expect minor delays.

KENTON COUNTY

· KY 371 Buttermilk Pike – The right southbound lane of KY 371 will be closed between Anderson Road and High Street. The right southbound lane of KY 371 north of Anderson Road will be marked as “right turn only”. Expect delays. If possible, motorists are advised to use alternate routes.

OWEN COUNTY

· KY 22 - Gratz Bridge (approximately at the 6 mile marker) – The Gratz Bridge replacement project has begun. Clearing and grubbing is the only operation taking place this week. Blasting may begin next week with hauling blasted material beginning soon after. Traffic is allowed during daylight hours but is not allowed from 6:30 AM to 8:30 AM and from 3:00 PM to 5:30 PM. There will be some one way traffic during these operations.

PENDLETON COUNTY

· Carter’s Chapel Road (CR 1318) Closure at Rogers Road – The Carter’s Chapel Bridge Replacement over Seller’s Branch has begun. The roadway will be closed to through traffic to start bridge replacement. Detour routes are posted at Gardnersville-Portland Road (KY 491) to the south and on Gardnersville Road to the north. Traffic will be detoured onto Rogers Road. The road will be closed a maximum of 180 days.

Tips For Motorists


The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet offers the following tips for motorists when they approach a work zone:

  1. Expect the unexpected.
  2. Slow down.
  3. Don’t tailgate. Keep a safe distance between you and the car ahead of you.
  4. Keep a safe distance between your vehicle and the construction workers and equipment.
  5. Pay attention to the signs.
  6. Obey road crew flaggers.
  7. Stay alert and minimize distractions.
  8. Keep up with the traffic flow.
  9. Schedule enough time and call 511 or go to www.511.ky.gov for Kentucky traffic and travel information. Knowing where the construction zones are prior to the trip can minimize frustration and delays.
  10. Be patient and stay calm.
