Holmes Honors Basketball Champs

Last Update: 3/25 4:24 pm

A Tri-State high school is celebrating its state championship basketball team Monday as the players triumphantly return to school.

Last week the Holmes boy's basketball team left town as challengers. Now they are being recognized as champions.

The Covington school has planned a welcome back celebration for the state champions during a pep rally at 10 a.m.

The Holmes Bulldogs won the state basketball title in Lexington Saturday night at historic Rupp Arena. Louisville Central was the victim, going down in double overtime 67-63.

The team had to overcome a 10-point deficit in the third quarter to win the program’s first-ever state title.

Last year, Holmes made it to the finals and lost. With the win, the Bulldogs become the first state champion in the region since Simon Kenton brought home the trophy back in March 1981.
