The finals of the Scripps National Spelling Bee will air tonight on Channel 9 at 8 p.m.

A Cincinnati student who made it to the semifinals of the Scripps National Spelling Bee is no longer in the running.

Thirteen-year-old Tino Delamerced from Summit Country Day School was eliminated after he misspelled the word clotrimazole.

Clotrimazole is an antifungal agent used to treat candidiasis, tinea and ringworm.

Delamerced correctly spelled his first two words of the day.

Those words were deloul and pleurisy.

Deloul is a special breed of the dromedary used for rapid traveling; the swift camel; - called also herire, and maharik.

Pleurisy is the inflammation of the pleura, with or without a liquid effusion in the pleural cavity, characterized by a dry cough and pain in the affected side.

Delamerced was one of three semifinalists from Ohio when the day began. The other two were: 13-year-old Anamika Veeramani from Cleveland and 11-year-old Nicholas Rushlow from Pickerington.

Veeramani is still in the competition.

When the day began, 41 students remained out of a record 293 participants this year.

Written test scores were combined with the oral rounds Wednesday to determine the semifinalists. A dozen or so spellers will compete in Thursday night's finals for a trophy that comes with more than $40,000 in cash and prizes.

Here's what Tino said about his experience at the Spelling Bee:

It was an incredible experience for me to tie for 12th place. I exceeded my expectations as a first time speller in The National Spelling Bee. I couldn't have done this without the love and support of my family. We all sacrificed a lot to get this far. Thank you to the whole Summit Country Day School community for their encouragement. Special mention to Mrs. Ely my Language Arts teacher who flew all the way to DC.

I sure was nervous the whole time but I am now relieved it's all over for now. Thank you again for everybody for their kind words.
