MIAMI, Fla. -- Chad Ochocinco continues to stir up sports news, this time about the possible acquisition of wide receiver Terrell Owens.
Ochocinco's latest public relations extravaganza, his mansion party in Miami, got him close to co-host T.O.
Chad and T.O. reportedly got to talking about playing with one another and Chad headed to his outlet to the world, Twitter, to speak out about it.
Chad's post read: "@terrellowens bruh pack yo bags and head to Cincy d***t, see you in training camp, one goal in mind #superbowl."
This gets Bengals fans talking, and sports analysts too. ESPN's Adam Schefter re-tweeted the comment with a "Hmmm" attached to it, indicating a possible deal.
Ochocinco originally broke the rumor with Foxsports saying he was "sure of it" that T.O. would sign with the Bengals, but has admitted since that he had no inside information.
Ochocinco clarified his comments early Friday morning on
ESPN.com and said that he mentioned it to Marvin Lewis.
"I told Coach about our conversation, and he said, 'Let's talk about it when I get there.'" Chad said. "He arrived today, and we're going to talk."
Obviously Ochocinco is not the man making roster decisions for the Bengals, but with Terrell Owens becoming a free agent in March, a deal with Cincinnati is not unlikely.
Ochocinco and Owens do share the same agent, Drew Rosenhaus, so negotiations would not be unfamiliar.
The Bengals receiving core is a mixed bag of age, and adding the 37-year-old Owens wouldn't hurt the development of the Bengals' five wide receivers with less than four years of experience in the NFL.
That is assuming that Owens would be willing to play mentor.
T.O. has been seen as a distraction to locker rooms in the past, and with a season that finally saw a cohesive locker room, Cincinnati supporters can only help but wonder if that delicate balance may be thrown off by Owens' arrival.
Many believe Owens is far past his prime, but his stats show he can still make plays.
Owens pulled in 55 catches for 829 yards and five touchdowns on a struggling Buffalo Bills team in 2009, including one game with nine of those catches for 197 yards and one of those touchdowns. Many in Buffalo blamed the quarterback situation as their downfall, so perhaps a coupling with veteran Carson Palmer would boost his performance.
