CHICAGO – The woman who took talk shows to a whole new level in the ’80s has decided to pull her own show from the air after 24 years.
For more than two decades Oprah Winfrey has walked into the homes and hearts of women across the country and the world. She has been known for years by just one name, Oprah. But now, "The Oprah Winfrey Show" plans its final curtain call on Sept. 9, 2011. It will be the close of her 25th season.
According to Harpo, Inc. President Tim Bennett, Winfrey will make the announcement during her show on Friday, Nov. 20.
She will announce live on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" that she has decided to "end what is arguably one of the most popular, influential and enduring programs in television history," said Bennett.
The sun may be setting on the "Oprah," but he said don’t count her out yet.
"And, if you think the last quarter century has been something, then ‘don’t touch that dial’ as together we plan to make history in the next 20 months … and beyond."
