Despite being able to sleep in, thousands of Northern Kentuckians will wake-up early to mark Memorial Day.
Here are some of the events planned by communities across Boone, Kenton and Campbell Counties.
Alexandria's Memorial Day Parade will begin at 2 p.m. Monday. It starts at Campbell County Middle School, continues down Washington Street to Main Street, to Spillman Drive and the Veterans Memorial behind the Alexandria Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3205. The Campbell County High School Marching Band will perform. A 21 gun salute will be presented at the ceremony honoring fallen soldiers.
Monday will be the 80th year for the Bellevue-Dayton Memorial Day Parade. The parade begins at 10:30 a.m. at the Veterans Monument in Dayton. It ends at the Bellevue Veterans Club in Kentucky. The guest speaker will be KDVA Commissioner Ken Lucas, former Fourth District Congressman.
Camp Springs hosts a parade that begins at 10:30 a.m. Monday. It begins at St. John Lutheran Church and continues to the Camp Springs Fire House. A community cook-out follows the parade.
Covington will have a parade beginning at 2 p.m. Monday. It begins at Holmes High School, heads north on Madison Avenue to 19th Street ending at Linden Grove Cemetery where a memorial service will be held. Assembly for the parade begins at 1 p.m.
Edgewood will have ceremony starting at 10 a.m. Monday, May 25, at Freedom Park.
Christina Fletcher, a Dixie Heights student will sing the "Star Spangled Banner."
Senator Jack Westwood will lead the crowd in the "Pledge of Allegiance." In addition, Kenton County Sheriff Chuck Korzenborn will perform "Taps."
Erlanger-Elsmere's parade begins at 9 a.m. It will start at the Elsmere Police Department on Dixie Highway (near Eastern Ave.) and proceed down Dixie Highway
Florence will hold its 10th annual Memorial Day Parade and Program on Monday, May 25.
The parade will begin at 10 a.m. at Boone County High School (7056 Burlington Pike/KY 18) and proceed down Burlington Pike/KY 18 onto Ewing Boulevard to the Boone County Veterans Memorial (on the campus of the Florence Government Center, 8100 Ewing Blvd.) where the memorial program will begin at approximately 11 a.m.
Fort Mitchell --The Mayor and other city officials will attend a service at Highland Cemetery, 2167 Dixie Highway, at 10 a.m. where the Beechwood Band performs.
Bagpipper, Rick Downard from Lawrenceburg, will also perform. Laurie Murray, Katie Grant and Julie Holt, three woman from Ft. Mitchell will also sing. Col. Charles H. Pangburn III, retired marine will speak. The community is then invited to then go to the city building with the clock chimes playing at 11 a.m. Then at 11:30 a.m. an induction ceremony for those being added to the Wall of Honor.
Fort Wright's annual observance begins Monday at 10 a.m. It takes place in Battery Hooper Park, 1402 Highland Pike in front of the James A. Ramage Museum. The Museum will be open after the event until 1 p.m.
Independence Annual Memorial Day Parade starts promptly at 10:30 a.m. at Delaware Crossing Drive. This is the street that intersects with Madison Pike by the Independence Fire District Firehouse. Groups participating, or individuals wanting to march in the parade are asked to arrive by 10 a.m. The parade will travel along Madison Pike to the Kenton County Courthouse. There will be stops for Memorial Services en route at the Independence Cemetery and at Saint Cecilia Cemetery.
Park Hills parade starts at 11:30 a.m. Monday at the Old Northern Kentucky University campus. Ends at Park Hills City Building.
Southgate's Memorial Day Parade will be 10 a.m. Monday. The parade begins at Electric and Bluegrass Streets. Memorial Day Ceremony will begin after parade ends at the monument. Veterans of Foreign Wars reception will follow.
Williamstown will hold a ceremony at 1 p.m. It will take place at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North.
