LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) -- State police say the investigation into the death of a part-time U.S. Census worker whose body was found hanging in a southeastern Kentucky forest is making progress.

Capt. Lisa M. Rudzinski, commander of the state police post in London, which is leading the investigation into Bill Sparkman's death, said Tuesday it will be resolved in a matter of weeks.

"We are closer to the end than to the beginning," Rudzinski said.

The nude body of Sparkman, 51, who was also a substitute teacher, was found hanging from a tree in Clay County on Sept. 12. The word "fed" was written across his chest.

The state medical examiner's office has established the cause of death as asphyxiation but has not determined whether it was a homicide, accident or suicide.
