This September, the race is on in Northern Kentucky to raise funds for area homeless.
On Sept. 13, the 2008 Class of Leadership Northern Kentucky will host the inaugural HealthPoint Hopebox Derby, "A Race to Help the Homeless" at Northern Kentucky University.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the Pike Street Clinic in Covington, Kentucky. Operated by HealthPoint Family Care, the Pike Street Clinic is an important organization serving the homeless population of Northern Kentucky by providing free medical care on a walk-in basis.
"Medical services shouldn’t be something you are denied simply because you’re experiencing homelessness," said Andy Tracy, Co-Chair of the event.
"We are really excited about this event and hope that the community will join us in supporting HealthPoint and the Pike Street Clinic."
Members of the community are invited to join in the fun by entering a soapbox car in the race.
Entry is $2,000 and includes race entry fee and a soapbox car assembly kit.
In addition to being a great team building activity – for a great cause – all participants and their team members will receive recognition on race day and in the official race program.
Prior to the race, various retailers will display Soapbox cars that plan on participating, across Northern Kentucky.
In addition to soapbox races, the day’s festivities will include a car display of antique and modern classics, a festival area with food, music and an activities area with something fun for the whole family.
