FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) — Gov. Steve Beshear says the $2.9 billion in federal stimulus funds awarded to Kentucky has created or preserved nearly 2,300 jobs in the state.
Beshear said in a written statement Friday that the money also allowed Kentucky to avoid deeper cuts to government services, including education.
That information is included in one of the periodic reports Kentucky is required to make about how the federal stimulus money is being spent.
The largest chunk of Kentucky's funding, $994 million, is going to Medicaid. Another $651 million will be used to balance the state budget. And $543 million is being spent on construction projects, primarily road construction.
