A Bracken County man is dead after law enforcement officers say they opened fire when he tried to attack them with construction equipment.
The incident began around 8 Sunday night when police responded to
2019 Eden Ridge Road for an alleged domestic dispute involving the suspect, Robert W. Bradford, and a woman.
After the woman safely got out of the home, police say Bradford went inside a barn and refused to come out.
At some point, officers say Bradford got into a construction vehicle, possibly a front-end loader, and drove it toward officers. Bradford reportedly ignored several verbal commands from the officers before at least one officer opened fire, shooting him.
According to Officer Rick Saint-Blancard of the Kentucky State Police, "When he got into the end loader, he still did not respond to any verbal commands. At which point, he got into it, started it up, and actually went after the units, both the Kentucky State Police units and the Bracken County deputies."
A medical helicopter arrived at the scene to take Bradford to the hospital, but he did not survive, officials tell 9News.
Kentucky State Police remained on the scene well into Monday morning, re-enacting the incident as part of the investigation.
It's not clear exactly who shot Bradford. Both Kentucky State Police and the Bracken County Sheriff's Department were on the scene at the time of the shooting.
The address on Eden Ridge Road is the same address as a business named RW Bradford Transportation, which is a trucking company.
