Good Morning...It's Tuesday November 3, 2009

I spent a good deal of Monday blowing and raking and burning leaves.  My son remarked that we seem to have more leaves than ever this year.  He didn't offer to help, he just offered that observation.

When we bought this house 17 years ago, I remember thinking how great it was to have all these trees.

Obviously we bought the house in the spring.

STAYIN' ALIVE
Chase Utley hit two more home runs and the Philadelphia Phils have extended the World Series to at least six games.  The Phils beat the Yankees 8-6

HOME RUN CHASE
That's five home runs for Utley, tying him for most ever in a World Series.  He shares the record with Reggie Jackson.  The Yankees had scored once in the first inning, but Utley steadied the ship with a 3-run shot in the bottom of the first.  Utley has played in a total of 10 World Series games and he has seven home runs.

CAN CLIFF LEE PITCH EVERY GAME?
Lee got his second win of this series and his fourth of the postseason. He pitched into the eighth inning.

BACK TO THE BRONX
Game six is Wednesday night at Yankee Stadium.  Pedro Martinez will pitch for Philly, Andy Petitte is expected to throw for the Yankees.  The Yanks lead the series three games to two.

HOME RUN HEROES QUIZ
Utley and Reggie Jackson have the record with five home runs in a World Series.  Six other players have hit four home runs in a World Series.  How many can you name?

MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL
The Saints have beaten the Falcons in a very entertaining game 35-27.  The Saints are off to a 7-0 start. Only the Colts can match that this season.  It's the best start in Saints history.

IT WAS A BREES
Drew Brees engineered four touchdown drives of 80 yards or more Monday night.  He really spreads around the football and has a bunch of guys who go and get the ball.

STAY TILL THE END
The Saints went up by eleven points with just a few minutes to play.  But the Falcons drove for a quick field goal and then recovered an onside kick in the final minute of play.  Matt Ryan completed one pass, but on a desperation heave inside the ten, Darren Sharper intercepted to end the game.

BACK ON THE FIELD
Joe Reedy of the Enquirer reports that first round draft pick Andre Smith was not only on the field for the Bengals Monday, but he took part in contact drills.  There's speculation that he'll play Sunday against the Ravens, but there's some question whether he's in "football" shape.

STILL SELLING TICKETS
The Bengals say they have about 4,500 tickets left for Sunday's game.  Frankly, I'm surprised.  I thought the blowout against the Bears would provide a quick sellout.  It just shows that people don't have the money to spend and the tickets cost toooooooo much.

BITING THE BROWNS DUST
Cleveland General Manager George Kokinis was fired by Browns owner Randy Lerner on Monday.  The Browns are 1-7 after a another lopsided loss to the Bears. Kokinis was hired in January.

WHAT ABOUT MANGINI?
Browns Coach Eric Mangini has about as many friends in Cleveland these days as Art Modell. Yet he still has his job.  The Browns are in their bye week, and Lerner says he won't make a coaching move during the bye week.

DID THE WRONG GUY GET AXED?
It seems to me that Mangini has done more to alienate the team and the town than anyone in recent memory.  Kokinis was the easy fire today.  Mangini gets it very soon. I don't think that's going too far out on the limb.

WATCHING THE BEARCATS
The UC-Connecticut game Saturday night is nearly a sellout.  U-Conn returned much of its allotment and those tickets are currently on sale.  Those seats are behind the visitors bench

BUCKS THEN BEARCATS ON TV
Saturday on Channel Nine:
3:30  Ohio State at Penn State
8:00  Connecticut at UC

TOP TEN IN CRESTVIEW HILLS
The Thomas More Saints are ranked #10 in Division III football.  They are undefeated in their first eight games and they'll host Geneva on Saturday.

SEC HOOPS
UK's Patrick Patterson is an SEC preseason All conference selection.  So is South Carolina's Devan Downey who began his career at UC.

NO MORE BATMAN
The Spurs Manu Ginobli swatted a bat that was buzzing fans and players at the Spurs-Kings game on Saturday night.  He smacked it in mid-flight with his left hand and the bat dropped like a rock.  Monday, Ginobli had to get rabies shots. He says he won't do that again.

THIS DAY IN HISTORY
This was the day after Harry Truman won re-election by upsetting Thomas Dewey in 1948.  As he took a train back to DC, he stopped in St. Louis and held up the headline from the Chicago Tribune that read "Dewey Defeats Truman".  He loved it.  The Tribune was a Republican paper that had called him a "nincompoop". But the paper was forced to go to press very early on election night, and its pollsters got the results wrong. Just about everybody did.

THIS DAY IN SPORTS HISTORY
How's this for getting robbed?  Yankee second baseman Joe Gordon was named MVP in the American League on this date in 1942.  He beat Ted Williams who won the Triple Crown, a batting average of .356 with 36 home runs and 137 rbi's. Gordon hit .322 and 18 home runs and 103 ribbies, but c'mon.  The media really had to dislike Williams to do that.

HOME RUN HEROES ANSWER
These guys hit four home runs during the course of a single World Series.  Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Duke Snider(he did it twice), Hank Bauer, Barry Bonds and Gene Tenace.  Reds fans will remember that Tenace, the kid out of Portsmouth killed them in the 1972 World Series when they lost to the Athletics.

TONIGHT
-Xavier men play Rollins in an exhibition game at the Cintas Center
-Boys Soccer regionals begin. Lakota West, Mason, Finneytown, Reading, Seven Hills and CCD will play.
