EDGEWOOD, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky Health Department has confirmed another death associated with the swine flu  H1N1 in a Boone County male in his 20s.

The individual did not have any underlying conditions prior to his death, according to the information provided to the Health Department.

The death reported Monday is the third reported in the region and the 20th in the state.

“The loss of a young person’s life is tragic, and we extend our sympathies to the individual’s family,” said Steven R. Katkowsky, M.D., District Director of Health. “This loss stresses the fact that swine flu can be serious and steps must be taken to prevent the illness.”

Additional details are now available for the Health Department’s upcoming swine flu vaccination clinic, to be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Nov. 11, at the Bank of Kentucky Center, 500 Nunn Drive, Highland Heights, Ky.

“The Bank of Kentucky event is a huge undertaking, and we ask for the public’s assistance in making the clinic run smoothly,” said Katkowsky.

Parking/traffic control:
Parking will not be available at the Bank of Kentucky Center, so those attending the clinic will park off-site and be bussed to the arena. Three off-site parking lots have been established.

Directions and a map to these lots are included at the end of this news release and posted on the Health Department’s Web site at http://www.nkyhealth.org/.
· Furniture Fair, 3710 Alexandria Pike, Cold Spring, Ky.
· First Baptist Church of Cold Spring, 4410 Alexandria Pike, Cold Spring, Ky.
· Meijer, 5400 Alexandria Pike, Cold Spring, Ky.

Target groups:
Vaccine will be available to any Northern Kentucky resident who falls into the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s high risk groups for complications from swine flu; however, three groups will specifically be targeted at the Nov. 11 clinic: College students under 24 years of age, pregnant women and health care workers.

“Many parents have asked us whether their young children can be vaccinated at the November 11 clinic,” Katkowsky said. “While parents are certainly able to bring their children to this event, we ask them to consider waiting. The large setup at the arena, satellite parking and potential for long lines could be difficult to navigate with a small child. The vaccination clinics planned for November 14 and November 21 at local schools should provide a more family friendly environment, if parents are willing to hold off for a few more days.”

Vaccine availability:
· The Health Department plans to offer at least 8,000 doses of vaccine on a first-come, first served bases.
· Vaccine will be available in both shot form and nasal spray, as supplies allow.
· Anyone who has an allergy to eggs will not be eligible to receive the vaccine.
· If you plan to receive the vaccine in shot form, you are asked to wear a short-sleeved shirt to allow faster access to the upper arm for vaccination.

Disabled access:
Special access will be available for the disabled and pregnant woman with limited mobility. Anyone meeting these criteria should ask for accommodations upon arrival.

Additional clinics:
Target groups: Pregnant women, caregivers of children under 6 months, children aged 6 months to 4 years accompanied by a parent to provide consent; and children at highest risk of flu complications accompanied by a parent to provide consent.

Dates and locations: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 14, at Walton-Verona Middle/High School, 30 School Road, Walton, Ky.; 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 21, at Summit View Middle School, 5002 Madison Ave., Independence, Ky.
