FRANKFORT, Ky. -- Unemployment rates rose in all 120 Kentucky counties between August 2008 and August 2009, according to a new report issued by the Kentucky Office of Employment and Training.
In Northern Kentucky, Carroll County had the highest rate of unmployment in August at 13 percent. Boone County's unemployment rate was the best in the region at 9.4 percent, followed by Kenton County at 10.0 percent and Campbell County at 10.3 percent.
Magoffin County recorded the state’s highest unemployment rate at 20.9 percent for the month of August, according to the office, an agency of the Kentucky Education and Workforce Development Cabinet. Nine other counties recorded unemployment rates exceeding 15 percent.
Fayette County had a lowest jobless rate in the commonwealth at 8.2 percent.
Kentucky’s overall unemployment rate for August stood at 11.1 percent – 1.4 percentage points higher than the 9.7 percent jobless rate nationally.
