SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — State transportation officials say they plan to reopen the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge Monday morning.

The span has been closed for nearly six days for emergency repairs. Two rods and a crossbar failed last week, sending 5,000 pounds of metal into rush-hour traffic.

California Department of Transportation spokesman Bart Ney had warned that commuters should prepare to find alternate routes Monday then later announced that bridge repairs and inspections were complete.

He says workers made significant progress overnight to assure the bridge's safety.

It's the longest closure since the span was shut down for a month after the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake.
